AGILE SOURCING WORKING GROUP

Agile sourcing introduces a more iterative, collaborative, and flexible approach to strategic sourcing—one that mirrors agile principles in product development. The group’s work equips organisations to:

  • Streamline decision-making,

  • Adapt swiftly to changing requirements,

  • Engage suppliers more effectively,

  • And, ultimately, drive better outcomes from sourcing efforts.

If you would like to join any of the workstreams, please contact the GSA at admin@gsa-uk.com.

🛠 Purpose and Focus

  • Clarify "Agile Sourcing" — defining what it is (and isn't), how it differs from agile procurement, when to employ it, and where it fits in the sourcing lifecycle

  • Develop Guiding Principles — establishing the key characteristics of agile sourcing, the behaviors required for success, stakeholder roles, and necessary governance frameworks

  • Create a Maturity Framework — enabling both buyers and suppliers to assess their readiness and competencies for adopting agile sourcing

  • Benchmark Benefits — measuring the real-world business value and outcomes delivered by agile sourcing

At our May Agile Sourcing Working Group session, practitioners, advisers, and suppliers were candid about where things actually stand: a technology moving faster than the frameworks designed to manage it. Agentic AI is already in production at some organisations. Transparency to suppliers about when AI is evaluating their bids is largely absent. And if the underlying data is skewed — and much of it is — AI will scale that distortion, not correct it.

The piece sets out what the industry needs to build: actionable governance, a transparency standard for AI use in procurement, strategic alignment before tool selection, and investment in training people to use these tools well. The organisations that will get this right are not the ones moving fastest — they are the ones moving most deliberately.
