GSA Partners with DLA Piper to launch Legal Helpline for GSA Members

September 9th at 12:00am

'The legal Helpline will provide initial advice on all matters related to strategic sourcing programmes'

The GSA is announcing the launch of the GSA Legal Helpline for exclusive use by members, in association with DLA Piper. The GSA Legal Helpline, which will go live today, has been set up to assist GSA members with free* legal advice for generic enquiries related to questions of law or market approach in the strategic sourcing industry.

Members are invited to call the Helpline between the hours of 9 and 5 Monday to Friday (excluding public holidays) and a receptionist will record a brief overview of the advice required . Alternatively members can post their queries 24/7 via a form on the GSA website: http://www.gsa-uk.com/initiatives/legal-helpline or via email to: GSAHelpline@dlapiper.com.

DLA Piper will then aim to have a call with the enquiring member within two working days to discuss the query and provide impartial and confidential guidance.  By way of example only, topics might include:

  • When TUPE transfers apply
  • How to manage contracting disputes
  • Types of contracting model
  • Enforceability of limitation clauses and market practice
  • What is the difference between "best" and "reasonable" endeavours

The Helpline is free to use for GSA UK members with a view to a global roll out in 2020. Corporate members are entitled to use the telephone helpline free of charge for a reasonable number of free calls of up to 25 minutes per topic. If members require ongoing advice from DLA Piper they will need to enter into a direct relationship with DLA Piper.

All advice will be given by DLA Piper legal advisers experienced in the relevant subject in strategic sourcing. Advice is given by telephone only and  where suitable, may also be provided by email.

The Legal helpline will not give advice on personal matters or subjects unrelated to sourcing such as tax nor will DLA Piper be able to advise on the specifics of any deal members are working on without engaging that member as a client. Documents (including letters and other written communications) cannot be considered or drafted.

Kerry Hallard, CEO of the Global Sourcing Association commented: “We are delighted to be bringing this new service line to members. Over the last 18 months we have been running a programme looking at new contracting models and through that we have been reviewing how to make contracting more flexible. Offering members a quick access soundcheck on their legal issues is completely in line with this flexible ethos. Our thanks go to DLA Piper for partnering in this initiative, which I’m sure will be highly valuable to GSA members.”

Kit Burden, Partner, DLA Piper, commented: “In our day to day work we are receiving numerous requests to sanity check ideas, issues and approaches. Rolling this out as a service to GSA members is our commitment to helping drive best practice across the strategic sourcing community”.

*the first 25 minutes of advice is free. If more detailed advice is required the member will need to engage DLA piper directly. Should a corporate member have multiple queries, then DLA will discuss whether it is possible to facilitate this within the telephone helpline or whether a separate engagement would be needed.  Terms of Service apply to the telephone helpline and can be found here.
